Supporting Mayville State's student athletes
Operating under the umbrella of the MSU Foundation, the Comet Athletic Club is the fundraising body for Mayville State University Athletics. The mission is to provide academic scholarships for student-athletes. Funds are raised through the annual membership drive and special events like Sportsmen's Raffle and the 3-on-3 basketball tournament. When athletic participation is high, enrollment is higher and MSU is stronger financially.
The CAC works to build a spirit of camaraderie among those who enjoy athletic competition and believe that this type of experience benefits the students. CAC members help to provide golden opportunities for many young people who wish to attend college and participate in athletics. Without scholarships, many of these students might not have an opportunity to attend college.
Members of the Comet Athletic Club enjoy a sense of satisfaction in knowing that they are making a positive impact on Comet Athletics and Mayville State University. In addition, members receive special invitations to game-related socials and tailgating activities throughout each sport season, as well as VIP announcement regarding important developments in the athletic programs.
The Comet Athletic Club membership goal for 2021-22 is 300 members generating $100,000 in scholarships for Mayville State student athletes. Comet Athletic Club membership is based on the fiscal year, July 1 to June 30.

The Comet Athletic Club sponsors a number of fundraising events each year, with the proceeds of each going to support scholarships for Mayville State student athletes.
Since 2007, the Comet Athletic Club has been sponsoring the Sportsmen's Raffle annually in September. The highlight of the raffle event is a raffle drawing for as many as 60 rifles, shotguns and handguns. The event also includes a variety of other raffles, games and prizes.
The Comet Athletic Club 3 on 3 Basketball tournament for elementary through high school age girls and boys is held each spring. Cost is $100 per team, and each team is guaranteed three games. Free T-shirts are given to all participants, and medals are awarded to the top three places in each division. Ribbons are awarded through eighth place. The first annual Harvey McMullen Open Golf Tournament was held in 2010. The tournament is held each year in July at the Mayville Golf Course. Formerly known as the North Valley (Hoople)-Comet Connection, the annual golfing event was re-named in honor of one of its founders, Harvey McMullen. Harvey McMullen, a native of Hoople, N.D., and Jerome Berg, both Mayville State University icons and steadfast supporters of the school established the North Valley (Hoople)-Comet Connection Golf Tournament in the early 1990. The purpose in starting the event remains the same today as it was then: to raise scholarship funds for Mayville State student athletes while having fun with friends from near and far.
Socialize with other Comet boosters
Comet Athletic Club members and friends are invited to enjoy several Comet Athletic Club socials each year. These socials are sponsored by area organizations and businesses, so the food is complimentary!
In addition, Comet Athletic Club members traditionally serve the annual corn on the cob and hot dog feed held as part of Mayville State's annual Farmers Bowl festivities. As a pre-Farmers Bowl event, the group serves a picnic meal under the tent near Jerome Berg Field as a recognition event for Mayville State student athletes.
