Important announcement from the NAIA

As of 11:45 a.m. Thursday, March 12, the NAIA canceled the national championships and issued the following statement:

Effective immediately, all remaining NAIA winter championship events will be canceled, including those that are currently underway.

The health and safety of our student-athletes, as well as all involved in our championship events, is the NAIA’s highest priority. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments and NAIA leadership will work closely with our member institutions to determine the best path forward for future NAIA events, including all spring 2020 championships. 

NAIA Winter Championship Streaming Refunds

In light of the decision by NAIA to cancel winter championships due to the COVID-19 outbreak, PrestoSports will process refunds for payments made for webstreaming games. Refunds will be made for day passes and individual sport championship passes purchased for men's and women's Division II basketball games that were not played, beginning March 12 at 12 p.m. CT.

The Comets women's and men's basketball teams each won their North Star Athletic Association tournaments and punched their way into the national tournaments!

The women's tournament is being held March 11-17 at Sioux City, Iowa. The women were eliminated from tournament play with a loss to Kansas Wesleyan on March 11. The men's tournament is being held March 11-17 at Sioux Falls, S.D. The men will play their opening round game versus Oregon Tech at 9:15 Thursday, March 12. Click the images at the right for specific tournament information from the NAIA.

Opening round for the men - Thursday, March 12

The Comets will face Oregon Tech in the Duer Bracket opening round of the tournament. Game time is 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The pre-game social that had been scheduled to be held at the Blue Rock has been cancelled. 

Game Watch Parties

Can't make it to the games in person? Support the Comets from afar at game watch parties in the Campus Center Luckasen Room at Mayville State. There will be games, door prizes, refreshments at more! Watch parties will be held for all games the Comets play in the national tournaments. Be aware that games played late in the day may be delayed as injuries, overtimes, etc. in games played previously in the day will cause scheduled times for subsequent games to be delayed.

Please be mindful of precautionary measures related to the coronavirus situation. Social distancing is encouraged and at-risk individuals should follow suggested guidelines. www.health.nd.gov.

Mayville State has entered the Division II Women's Basketball NAIA Cookie Challenge sponsored by the Sioux City Journal! The Comets are all in with Lisa Rakowski's Comet Chocolate Chippers recipe. You can vote for your favorite NAIA team recipe until noon on March 16. The final four recipes will be selected Monday, March 16 and prepared and tasted by a panel of judges. The overall winner will be announced Wednesday, March 18 in the Sioux City Journal's Food section.
