Mayville State Head Football Coach Rocky Larson has been named interim athletic director at Mayville State University. He will succeed current athletic director Jay DeCann who announced his decision to leave Mayville State for another position earlier this spring. DeCann’s last day at Mayville State is June 30. Larson has served as Mayville State’s assistant athletic director for the previous two years.

Larson will continue to serve as head football coach and begin his work as interim athletic director beginning July 16, 2023. The interim athletic director appointment is for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Rocky Larson joined Mayville State in 2020, after spending the previous four seasons as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Prior to this, he coached defensive backs for one season at University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. He spent one spring working with the University of Minnesota Gophers as an intern.

Larson graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology-human performance and a minor in coaching. In 2017, he graduated with a Master of Arts degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia Irvine.

He resides in Mayville with his wife, Richell, and their children, Lettie and Luxer.
