Mayville State University senior Riley Wass, Devils Lake, N.D., is the recipient of the 2023 North Dakota Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NDCTM) scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a university student going into their senior year of study as a mathematics major/minor.

Nominated for the award by Mayville State Associate Professor of Mathematics Fred Strand, Riley Wass is pursuing a secondary mathematics education major with a minor in psychology at Mayville State University. He is a Peer Leader and an active member and president of the Math Club. He is the Student Senate President, and he was a student representative who, together with faculty, staff, and administration, helped to develop the university’s newly launched strategic plan during the 2022-23 academic year. 

Riley is active in Mayville State’s theater program, as well as the Fort Totten Little Theatre in Devils Lake, N.D. He enjoys volunteering in the community.

Wass has been recognized as the Mayville State Student Worker of the Year, Student of the Year, and Freshman Math Major of the Year. 

Established in 1966, the NDCTM is a partner affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. NDCTM members include elementary, secondary, and post-secondary classroom teachers.
