As a recipient of the Registered Apprenticeship Program for Teachers (RAP-T) grant of $100,000, Mayville State University is collaborating with North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) and the U.S. Department of Labor to positively impact the teacher workforce in North Dakota. The grant will be used to fund all education expenses for paraprofessionals who meet established criteria, including a desire to earn an education degree and teacher licensure in North Dakota. These paraprofessionals will be selected in partnership with leaders from Grand Forks Public Schools and New Rockford-Sheyenne Public Schools.

The grant reinforces Mayville State University’s commitment to fostering excellence in education. The RAP-T grant aims to equip paraprofessionals with the skills, knowledge, and resources to be effective educators for North Dakota learners. This is a promising solution for addressing the critical teacher shortage in North Dakota.

“Mayville State University is proud to be a part of these important efforts,” said Dr. Pam Johnson, Assistant Professor of Education and Dean and Chair of the Division of Education at Mayville State University. “We thank our partners, Grand Forks Public Schools and New Rockford-Sheyenne Public Schools, for their continued support and collaboration.”

The RAP-T grant award represents a significant step in Mayville State University’s commitment to preparing and supporting educators and learners in North Dakota. Through partnerships with local school districts, the university is working to cultivate a passionate and effective teacher workforce.

“We extend our gratitude to all who were involved in making this grant possible, and we look forward to witnessing the positive outcomes that will undoubtedly emerge from this important initiative,” said Dr. Johnson.
