Feb 26th 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Byrnes Quanbeck Library Quiet Room - Stan Dakken Drive, Mayville, N.D.

Is it time for faculty to get "beyond the zero" in grading student assignments? Let's talk! Faculty discussion led by John Pederson, Division of Liberal Arts. This discussion forum was prompted by Kenneth C. Williams' presentation to MSU faculty on January 20. During his presentation on the highly engaged classroom, he argued that it is time for faculty to get "beyond the zero" in grading student assignments. His view is that giving students zeroes on assignments lets them off the hook, does not instill desired traits, and teaches the wrong lesson. This forum will begin by discussing faculty views on grading and the appropriateness of assigning a zero, and time permitting, proceed to discussing other aspects of his presentation. Faculty with all views or who are undecided on the subject are welcome and encouraged to attend.
