As the fall semester of 2018 ends at Mayville State, everyone is anxious for the holidays to start up and to be stress free of school. But for most, when they come back in the spring, they will have a tall task ahead of them.

First graduation day is one of the biggest accomplishments any student will achieve in their lives. But also, could be one of the most stressful times of the year. Once graduation hits the big reality of going into the real-world creeps on students and frightens them.

Sara Herzog, Junior at Mayville State is still two years out from graduating but her life after school is in the back of her mind. “Yes, I would say I am scared of what’s to come after school is over,” Herzog explained. “Because of the fact I have more responsibilities and have to rely on myself to go to my job every day is going to be stressful,” Herzog continued.

With this in mind, she does have her mind set on what she wants to do in her future. With a double Major in Fitness/Wellness and Physical Education and a Minor in coaching, she hopes to become an Athletic Trainer for a professional or work for a college.

When there are people who fear the real world, there are always ones who aren’t so afraid of what is to come.

Jonathan Pluth is a Senior at Mayville State and is graduating this upcoming Spring. He plans on taking off a year from what he wants to do in his career before getting back into the swing of things.

“School was just so draining on me,” Pluth explained, “I’m going to keep myself busy when I go back home with a job that isn’t too stressful to make some easy cash then in a year start what I want to do.”

Pluth is Majoring in Business, and though he is not set and stoned what he wants to do with his career but what he does know is that he wants to work somewhere than he can enjoy and help provide for his future family.

The ending of school is always bittersweet for students. For some, it’s the start of summer vacation with family and friends. But for others it’s the beginning of the rest of their lives.

Students who don’t know what they want to do with their career now is natural. Most of the time you won’t find out what it is you’re good at until you are out of college. But once you do, don’t hesitate to start doing what you want to do right away.

Make sure to always live in the moment and be prepared for what is to come, it is a long ride but you are the only one who can make it enjoyable.
