Roger D. Moe was honored with the naming of the library at the University of Minnesota Crookston June 2, 2023. The honor recognizes Moe for his support for the university both as a private citizen and through his leadership as a legislator who served the state of Minnesota.

Among those bringing greetings at the June 2 dedication ceremony were Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, United States Senator Amy Klobuchar, and University of Minnesota President Joan T.A. Gabel.

Roger and Martin.jpgMoe was elected to the Minnesota Senate in 1970 and was the second-youngest senator in state history at the time. He became the Senate’s majority leader in 1981, a position he held for 22 years. He is the longest-serving state majority leader, and the longest-serving leader of either of Minnesota’s legislative bodies.

Moe has played an integral role in the education system in Minnesota, and he is currently chair of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees.

A native of Crookston, Minn., Roger Moe graduated from Mayville State in 1966. He taught math and coached wrestling at Ada, Minn. prior to running for office. He received the Mayville State Distinguished Alumni Award in 1980, and he was inducted into the Mayville State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.
