More than 700 fourth- through sixth-grade students, their teachers, and chaperones attended the Marketplace for Kids Education Day Oct. 12.

Mayville State University had the honor of hosting more than 700 students in fourth through sixth grades at area schools, their teachers, and chaperones for the Marketplace for Kids Education Day held Thursday, Oct. 12.

Van Horn Marketplace 2023.jpgThe event was a unique, one-of-a-kind experience where students explore careers, technology, and the future through hands-on activities that are rooted in entrepreneurship and innovation. The Marketplace for Kids organization hosts these amazing experiences throughout the state of North Dakota.

Sessions throughout the day included topics such as "Talkin' Taters," "Energy Opportunities in North Dakota," Career Paths in Aviation," "Elements of Music," and "Heating Up the Science Lab." Sessions were led by leaders on the various topics, including Mayville State faculty.

In the Hall of Great Ideas, students could showcase their innovative projects.

Mayville State President Van Horn said, "It was our privilege to touch the future by hosting this event and providing opportunities for young people to spend time on the Mayville State campus. The buzz of activities that took over the campus as the entrepreneurs and leaders of the future experienced during Marketplace for Kids was exciting. You could almost hear the wheels spinning."

Mayville State's coordinator for the Marketplace for Kids Education Day was Jeni Peterson, Instructor of Education and Director of the Education and Innovation Center. The Mayville advisory leadership team was made up of co-chairs, Jeni Peterson and Ernie Strube, and members, Cydnee Strand and Jim Murphy. Bob Heitkamp is Executive Director of Marketplace for Kids.
