Homecoming 2022 was a time to gather, to honor alumni and friends, to pay respect, and to celebrate the ties that bind the members of the Mayville State family. Those who participated had great fun reconnecting and reflecting.

During the festivities held Oct. 7 and 8, the Alumni Association hosted activities that provided opportunities to recognize Mayville State alumni for their accomplishments as student athletes and as professionals who have excelled in their careers and lives after leaving Mayville State.

The 1989-90 men’s basketball team; Kelly Christianson, Roseau, Minn.; Gerald Falk, Morden, Manitoba; and James Lewis, Indianapolis, Ind., were inducted inState Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame. They were honored during a dinner held Friday, Oct. 7 in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room.

Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Service Award recipients for 2022 were recognized during a brunch program Saturday, Oct. 8. Honorees were Distinguished Alumni Award recipients for 2022 Dr. Joe Eisenmann, South Haven, Mich.; Dr. Ron Reilkoff, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Jim Richardson, Ancaster, Ontario. Pam Soholt, Mayville, N.D., and Cleone Whelan, Crystal, N.D., were recognized as recipients of the Distinguished Service Award.

A special attraction of the homecoming weekend was the viewing of artist Doug Anderson’s depiction of Comet Athletics through the years. His framed art panels were on display for viewing throughout the weekend. The collection will make its permanent home in the office suite of Mayville State Athletics and Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. Many commented on how Anderson’s paintings and drawings were lifelike and seemed to jump right off the paper. Doug Anderson is a 1974 graduate of Mayville State and a dedicated member of the Mayville State Alumni Association board. Throughout his lifetime, he has generously shared his time and talents for the benefit of his alma mater and its students.

“Homecoming 2022 provided for a great Comet family reunion,” said Beth Swenson, MSU Director of Alumni Affairs. “Mayville State is all about people and the relationships that are rooted in this very special university. It was heartwarming to see so many friends gather and enjoy time together, as well as to recognize and learn more about Mayville State alumni who, equipped with a Mayville State education and the experiences that accompany it, are doing good in the world.”
