Katie Aasen has been named interim head volleyball coach at Mayville State University for the 2023 season. She will begin her duties in this capacity immediately. Aasen is currently an instructor in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Mayville State and she previously served as a Comets assistant volleyball coach for six years.

“Katie excelled as a student-athlete who played volleyball for the Comets in the 2013 and 2014 seasons,” said Mayville State University President Dr. Brian Van Horn. “A former assistant coach for the Comets, she is dedicated to the program and Mayville State University. Katie will be an outstanding leader of Comets Volleyball. We look forward to a great season and bright future at Mayville State.”

Aasen played volleyball and basketball at North Dakota State College of Science prior to coming to Mayville State to finish her collegiate career as a student-athlete and earn a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 2016.

She is a native of Pine River, Minn. She and her husband, Marcus, and their two sons, Loken and Kiyer, live in Mayville.

A formal search for a full-time head volleyball coach at Mayville State University will begin in the fall.
