The public is cordially invited to join with all alumni and friends in celebrating Mayville State’s 125th anniversary during CometFest! Saturday, October 4, 2014 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The festivities will take place outside of Jerome Berg Field and are being held in conjunction with the annual homecoming celebration.

CometFest! will include fun activities for both young and old. There will be inflatable games, yard games, giveaways, and face painting. The concession stand will be open with food available for purchase, and there will be lots of space for socializing under the Alumni Association tent. Z94.7 radio personalities with Leighton Broadcasting in Grand Forks will be on hand and playing music from the Leighton Broadcasting RV. They’ll also be bringing a cash cube, and those who attend will have the opportunity to win a chance to spend some time in the cube and catch as many flying dollar bills as they can within an allotted time period.

There are some extra-special activities planned for the kids. The MSU Alumni Association is sponsoring a coloring contest. Prizes will be awarded in two age categories, pre-school through second grade, and third grade through fifth grade. In addition, there will be a sanctioned pedal tractor pull for kids ages 4 through 11. Registration for the tractor pull will begin outside of Jerome Berg Field immediately after the homecoming parade and the pull will begin by about 11:30 a.m. Information about these activities will be sent home with students at Peter Boe, Jr. soon. Information is also available at

“We invite all alumni and friends to join us at Mayville State as we celebrate 125 years of personal service during CometFest! and throughout the homecoming festivities,” said Beth Swenson, MSU Director of Alumni Affairs. “We at Mayville State are grateful for the wonderful community support the University receives, and we look forward to celebrating this special occasion with our friends from Mayville-Portland and beyond.”

CometFest! will begin after the traditional homecoming parade, and end prior to the homecoming football game, when the Comets will face Presentation College at Jerome Berg Field, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Also during this time period, the Comets volleyball team will be playing versus Presentation College in the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. Matches begin at 11:30 a.m.
