A grand opening and dedication event is planned at the Gardens of Remembrance located on the grounds north of the Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center at the corner of Third Avenue and Stan Dakken Drive on the campus of Mayville State University. The program is planned for 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 26. It will include remarks by Gardens of Remembrance project leaders Doug Anderson and Lute Simley. Music will be provided by Triplicity, Lori Nelson, Teresa Agnes, and Helen Hoyt. The public is invited to take part in this special event.

The Gardens of Remembrance, which include the Flagpole Garden and the Garden of Personal Service, will honor Mayville State’s history and tradition of personal service. This will be a place where those who have been a part of Mayville State’s history can reflect on their memories. It will also be a place where future generations can learn about the treasured history that has endeared Mayville State University to so many.

Architectural elements from historic Mayville State buildings that were razed several years ago are being incorporated into the Gardens of Remembrance. These elements include the lions that once graced the entrance of the Old Gymnasium, the flagpole that once stood atop Old Main, steps from the entrances of East Hall and West Hall, and the centerpiece of the fountain that was once on the south lawn of Old Main.

The Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center will be open throughout the day on Saturday, June 26. People are invited to stop by and see the alumni center which has special meaning to Mayville State alumni as well as community members. All are welcome.
