Mayville State alumni and friends and community members are invited to join in the fun of the Farmers Bowl silent auction. It will be held together with the Comet Athletic Club Sportsmen’s Raffle event which is scheduled to be held as part of the Farmers Bowl festivities Saturday, Sept. 18. The event will be held at Norsemen Hall, 1100 Parke Ave., Portland, N.D. Socializing and the silent auction begin at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. The Sportsmen’s Raffle 50-gun giveaway drawing begins at 7 p.m.

Those who wish to attend the Farmers Bowl silent auction event, but not participate in the Sportsmen’s Raffle 50-gun giveaway may purchase a meal-only ticket for $25. Tickets are available at the MSU Foundation office (701-788-4864). Everyone who purchases a meal ticket will be eligible for a drawing for a $250 Scheels gift card. A great assortment of Farmers Bowl auction items has been donated by faithful Mayville State supporters. Items range from a side table handcrafted from Winchester shell casings and oak to items for kids, home décor, and more. Bidders will find a handmade baby quilt, pub-size chairs handcrafted from logs, and a number of unique items, including a hand-crafted Norwegian tine box and a hand-crafted cutting board. A list of auction items and photos can be found at www.mayvillestate.edu/farmersbowlauction.

Six auction items will be sold as part of an abbreviated live auction. Five of these items are custom-made and have a Comets theme: an Adirondack chair, a shuffle board game, a picnic table for kids, corn hole boards, and a pub-style table, made with wood from Mayville State’s Old Gymnasium playing floor, and two stools. The sixth live auction item is a kid-sized go-cart.

Proceeds of the Farmers Bowl silent auction will benefit the students of Mayville State University through the work of Comet Athletics, the MSU Alumni Association, and the MSU Foundation. First State Bank is sponsoring the Farmers Bowl silent auction. Organizers are grateful to them and all Farmers Bowl event sponsors for their generous support for Mayville State University.

Rodney Miller and Jann Carl, hosts of Small Town Big Deal, a television show that airs nationwide and has more than a million viewers each week, will be joining in the fun of Farmers Bowl 2021. Their participation will make this year’s Farmers Bowl extra-special. The Small Town Big Deal production crew will be recording Farmers Bowl highlights for a future episode of the show.

Farmers Bowl 2021 will begin on Sept. 18 with a 5K Fun Run at 7:30 a.m., followed by a special Ceremony of Remembrance at the Mayville State Military Honor Garden at 9 a.m. People who attend the Ceremony of Remembrance are encouraged to bring a lawn chair so they can be seated and also to stay on the grounds of the Larson Center to watch the Farmers Bowl parade, which will pass by following the ceremony.

The Farmers Bowl Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Lineup for the parade will begin at 8 a.m. at the corner of Center Avenue and Main Street in Mayville. Parade entrants will line up from the west, going east. Parade chairman Jay Henrickson and his committee are encouraging people to get pre-registered as soon as possible by emailing Stacy at stacy.buchl@mayvillestate.edu.

The parade committee is working hard to make sure this is the biggest and best Farmers Bowl Parade yet. Will you help them in their efforts by joining the parade with your vehicle or farm equipment of interest, old or new? Let your Comet and Community Pride show!

Immediately following the parade, Mayville State athletic teams will be serving corn on the cob and hot dogs for all outside of Jerome Berg Field. During this time, there will be games, including corn hole, inflatables, and more. In addition, the local farmers market merchants will be set up and selling their homegrown and homemade products.

The Comets will host Dickinson State in the Farmers Bowl football game. Game time is 1:30 p.m. at Jerome Berg Field.

Rounding out the schedule for the annual Farmers Bowl, a day filled with activities for all, is the Lindaas Barn Dance which will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Elroy Lindaas farm east of Mayville at 735 153rd Ave. NE. Celebrate Farmers Bowl 2021 and the agricultural way of life of the area while dancing and enjoying the music of local musicians along with the Cathy Erickson Band.
