In June, an anonymous Mayville State University donor issued a challenge to all Mayville State alumni and friends. The challenge was to match the donor’s fifth challenge gift to Mayville State Football, a gift of $30,000. The donor had issued the same challenge in previous years, but this time the amount increased from $20,000 to $30,000.
When the $30,000 match was exhausted well before the challenge deadline of Nov. 11, 2023, another challenger came forth with $5,000 to add to the match pot. With momentum gaining, that additional $5,000 matching amount was spoken for in no time at all, prompting a third anonymous donor to throw in $5,000!
Mayville State alumni and friends generously accepted the challenge in a big way. The full $40,000 in dollar-for-dollar matching funds available has now been exhausted, and a total of more than $80,000 has been raised in support of Comets Football. All funds raised in the challenge will assist the Mayville State University football program through the work of the White Hat Club.
“This influx of funding is having a big impact in our efforts to build the Mayville State football program,” said Mayville State University Head Football Coach Rocky Larson. “We sincerely appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity of the anonymous donors who issued the challenge and all who accepted the challenge with their financial support.”
