Peer Leaders, women's basketball players, and others were eager to help new and returning Comets unload their vehicles and carry their belongings to their residence hall homes beginning at noon on Saturday, Aug. 19. By 1 p.m., many of the residence hall rooms, suites, and apartments were already occupied and residents were getting settled in preparation for the Fall Semester of 2017. Fall semester classes begin at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21. The first full day of classes is Tuesday, Aug. 22.

A number of Welcome Week activities are planned for students, beginning with a meal for the freshmen at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 in the MSU cafeteria. Other activities scheduled throughout the week include an outdoor movie, opening week dance and photo booth, a solar eclipse event, grocery bingo, activities at Island Park, and a pool party and belly flop contest.
