In June, an anonymous Mayville State University donor came forward for a fifth time and issued a challenge to all Mayville State alumni and friends. The donor agreed to match dollar-for-dollar all gifts made to support Mayville State Football, up to a total of $30,000.

Alumni and friends accepted the challenge in a big way, and when the full match amount of $30,000 was exhausted well before the challenge deadline of Nov. 11, 2023, another challenger came forth with an additional $5,000 to add to the match pot.

With momentum gaining, that additional $5,000 matching amount was spoken for in no time at all, prompting a third anonymous donor to throw in $5,000!

“There is no doubt this was a challenge well-taken,” said Mayville State University Foundation Executive Director Dr. Lon Jorgensen. “The ball is rolling full steam ahead and it is very likely that the full $40,000 in matching funds will be exhausted before the first game on Aug. 26, when Mayville State travels to Havre, Mont. to play Montana State-Northern.”

All totaled, this challenge will have generated $80,000. Funds received will assist the Mayville State University football program through the work of the White Hat Club.

“We are incredibly blessed to have the loyal and generous support of so many alumni and friends,” said Mayville State University Head Football Coach Rocky Larson. “The funds raised through this match challenge are playing a huge role in our efforts to build the Mayville State football program. We are truly grateful for this support.”
