Leadership Summit

Dave Mitchell will be the keynote speaker at a leadership summit planned on the campus of Mayville State University Thursday, March 27. In addition to Mitchell’s keynote presentation, break-out sessions will be presented by Mitchell and several others throughout the afternoon. The public is invited and encouraged to participate in the leadership summit, which is being sponsored by Mayville State University’s Larson Leadership Program. Registration will begin at 12:00 noon in the Mayville State University Campus Center foyer. The registration fee for the general public is $10 per person. Mayville State University faculty, staff, and students will be admitted free of charge.

One-hour break-out sessions on the topics of developing vision in leadership, communicating, and connecting in leadership, women and leadership, and leading athletic teams will begin at 1:00 p.m. Presenters of these sessions will be Dave Mitchell; Ellen Chaffee, senior fellow for the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) and former president of Mayville State University; David Braaten, business education faculty member at Hopkins (Minn.) High School and 1990 Mayville State graduate; Terry Kemmer, emeritus professor of business at Mayville State; Michelle Worner Kommer, vice president for human resources at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota; and Grant Olson, senior at North Dakota State University and leader on the Bison three-peat national football championship team.

Dave Mitchell’s keynote address will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room. Centering around his second book, The Power of Understanding People, Mitchell will focus on the topic of leadership and the importance of understanding people. A limited number of Mitchell’s books will be available for purchase during the summit. Cost will be $15.00 each.

Prior to starting his own organization development consulting firm, Dave Mitchell was the vice president of human resources and quality for Buena Vista Hospitality Group, corporate director of training and development for Marshall Field’s, and a television reporter/producer for CBS News. He has earned degrees in mass communications and global human resources development. 

Since founding the Leadership Difference almost two decades ago, Dave Mitchell has led seminars for more than 250,000 people nationally and internationally. The seminars have included topics on leadership, customer service, selling skills, and personal performance enhancement, with clients from organizations including Allstate Insurance, Bank of America, Universal Studios, Walt Disney World, and the CIA. In July 2013, Meeting Professionals International selected Dave’s presentation as the Meeting Madness winner at their World Education Congress in Las Vegas.

The Larson Leadership Program is funded with the assistance of the Edson and Margaret Larson Foundation and is designed to promote the leadership enhancement on the campus of Mayville State University, as well as in the Mayville-Portland community.
