Brown Bag Session with Charles Clifton

Charles (Chas) Clifton, author, educator, lecturer and internationally recognized scholar on nature-based religions, the interactions between the followers of these religions and contemporary society, will be on the Mayville State campus on Monday, October 20 in the Heritage Room to discuss the growth of the nature based religions and related subjects. All faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in the brown bag session from noon until 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Clifton’s extensive background in religious studies is the foundation upon which he has authored numerous articles, essays and books on nature-based religions and critical environmental issues. He is frequently an invited lecturer/speaker at religious symposiums throughout North America and parts of Europe. His expansive list of achievements extends to both sides of the publishing desk, having been an editor, publisher and author who has contributed dozens of articles, essays and critical reviews to North American and International scholarly publications. 

Chas Clifton’s lifetime of work in the media (from newspapers to today’s social media) has provided him with an extensive background in the problems encountered by emerging and established authors in writing about religious studies. 

Following his brown bag presentation in the Heritage Room, Clifton will meet with the students of Media Law and Ethics to discuss the pitfalls of writing about religious issues in today’s media. The class is open to all students and faculty and meets in the education building, room 122 (near the library entrance), from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday.

This is a one-time opportunity for students and faculty to meet and interact with one of the nation’s best known scholars on nature-based religious studies.
