The university recently announced the addition of the sport, marking an exciting expansion of opportunities for women student-athletes.

A 2025 graduate of Mayville State, Salmon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in fitness and wellness, with a minor in coaching. He was a four-year team captain for the Comets football program and served as the team’s quarterback, leading offensive units throughout his career. Salmon currently serves as an assistant coach for the Comets football team. In addition, he was head junior varsity and assistant varsity basketball coach at May-Port CG High School during the 2025-26 season.

“It’s wonderful to watch your graduates prosper and grow into opportunities and positions,” said Mayville State University President Dr. Brian Van Horn. “Tim Salmon is a student of the game and will be a great mentor, role model, and coach for Mayville State Women’s Flag Football.”

Women’s flag football is experiencing rapid growth nationwide, driven by increased youth participation, high school programs, and emerging collegiate opportunities. The Fronter Conference of the NAIA, of which Mayville State is a member, has adopted this sport, offering conference competition beginning in the 2026-27 season.

“We’re excited for the opportunities Women’s Flag Football will open at Mayville State University,” said Athletic Director Rocky Larson. “This program will provide new avenues for athletic leadership while expanding the future of women’s athletics. We are fortunate to have Tim Salmon leading the way for the Comets.”
