April 21-27 is Finish the FAFSA Week in North Dakota

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum has proclaimed the week of April 21-27, 2024 Finish the FAFSA Week in North Dakota. Applying for the FAFSA is the gateway to qualifying for grants, work-study funds, and federal student loans, as well as certain state-based aid to pay for college and career training programs.

Comet Athletic Club board members go above and beyond always

More than 600 basketball players, their coaches, and families will be in the Mayville-Portland community Saturday, April 13 for the annual Comet Athletic Club 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament! That’s 131 teams of second- through eighth-grade kids from North Dakota and Minnesota. Most of the teams are from within an hour or so of Mayville-Portland, with the longest distance of travel for a team being 150 miles.

Mayville State faculty member, students serving the community and supporting the public library

As a service to the community, Dr. Joseph Mehus, Associate Professor of Biology and INBRE Researcher at Mayville State University, and Kelli Tvedt, a deputy with the Traill County Sheriff’s Department, are working together to provide a fund-raising event that will benefit the Mayville Public Library. The Plant-a-Pot event will be held at the library on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 10 a.m. to noon.

A cloudy sky did not stop several Mayville State University students, faculty, and staff members from catching a glimpse of the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Librarian Kelly Kornkven was able to get the solar eclipse viewing glasses ahead of time and the Mayville State Science Club helped distribute them.

Mayville State University lost a very special friend last month. Curt Larson, age 91, passed away on March 24. Curt and his wife, Lydia, have been long-time friends and supporters of the university and our students. We extend our most sincere sympathy to Lydia and the Larson family.

Mayville State alumni and friends and all community members are invited to view current schematic design plans and renderings for the Old Main renovation project on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 7 p.m. in the MSU Classroom Building Auditorium. Representatives of Foss Architecture + Interiors will be present.
