Why did you choose to attend Mayville State University?
I choose to attend Mayville State University because of the unique curriculum. The RN to BSN program at Mayville State provides the option to enroll in one nursing class per five-week block. This enables the student to attend classes full-time while focusing on one class at a time. Although, the five-week courses are intense at times, it is a great option for those who wish to complete this step of their nursing education in a timely manner while maintaining a full-time career and attending to their family.

What do you like best about the major you’re pursuing?
What I like best about the major I’m pursuing is the almost limitless number of professional opportunities. Hospital administration, research and informatics are just a couple of the potential opportunities for the RN with a BSN degree. With the rapid changes that are occurring in healthcare, it is becoming more imperative that nurses pursue a BSN degree to practice autonomously within their profession.

What do you like best about Mayville State in general?
When you walk onto the Mayville State University campus, staff and faculty are friendly, helpful, and down-to-earth. Faculty know their students by name and that gives the Mayville campus a general small town feeling.

How has your experience as a MSU online and distance student been?
My experience thus far has been fantastic! Being enrolled in the online program gives me the flexibility to maintain a full-time career. It also allows me to adjust my schedule so I don’t miss out on the activities of my four children.

What support from MSU staff and faculty have you received as a MSU distance student?
It is very apparent that the faculty and staff at MSU posses expertise in their work. In particular, the nursing faculty members are exceptional in working with students to resolve any concerns or issues that arise. Each member of the faculty values the relationships with their students and wants them to succeed in their educational goals. The nursing faculty respects the experience and knowledge of their nursing students. They have built the curriculum to expand and build on the education students have already obtained, rather than repeating and replacing it. Faculty encourage student feedback on the program and truly value the relationships they have with their students.

What does it mean to you to have an opportunity to pursue a bachelor’s degree online?
Having the opportunity to obtain my Bachelor of Science degree in nursing is extremely important to me, both personally and professionally. Personally, obtaining my BSN degree will provide me with a sense of accomplishment in this phase of my educational goals. Professionally, obtaining a BSN degree will result in better patient outcomes for those in my care. This results from the knowledge obtained in nursing theory, research, evidence-based practice, and information technology during my time in the program.

What does personal service mean to you?
Personal service is a significant part of the nursing profession. As professional nurses, we are ethically and legally responsible for providing high-level care to our patients. To me, personal service is going above and beyond what is expected or required as a professional nurse. It is advocating and serving those who may not be your responsibility to serve. Personal service may involve anything from volunteering in your community to helping a friend in their time of need.

What are your plans after graduating from Mayville State?
After graduating from Mayville State, I hope to continue with my nursing education by attending a Doctor of Nursing Practice program. The completion of a Doctor of Nursing program will provide me with the highest level of nursing education. This, in addition to obtaining proper certification, this will allow me to practice as a nurse practitioner.
