Progress Snapshot
April 28, 2025
Excavation work around the perimeter of Old Main is underway. Crews are doing work, which includes waterproofing and drain tiling to keep moisture away from the renovated structure, on and around the building foundation. Preparation for pouring fittings for the bookend addition that will house a stairway and HVAC on the west end of the bounding is complete. Soon the fittings will be poured and construction of the addition can begin.
Soon, crews will pour the foundation for a beautiful new entrance that will be completed on the north side of Old Main. The entrance will be complemented by a welcoming seating area and lovely landscaping. The historic smokestack that is located in this area will be lighted and add to the ambience that will highlight the space.
Interior demolition is complete and some of the framing for the rebuilding process has begun. Work is also underway on the fourth-floor conference center. This beautiful new space that features multiple windows will provide the perfect vantage point from which to view the entire campus.
Project Overview
During the 2023 North Dakota legislative session, Mayville State University was granted $52 million to renovate Old Main. The renovation project will modernize this historic building, providing state-of-the-art classroom facilities, greater accessibility, and better efficiency. Students, staff, and faculty will enjoy more classroom and communal space. The renovation honors Old Main's legacy as a cornerstone of the Mayville State University campus, while growing with us into the future as we continue to meet the needs of our students and prepare them for success in the classroom and beyond.
Mayville State University selected Adam Peterson and Steve Skoblik with Foss Architecture + Interiors to lead the renovation. Additionally, PCL Community Contractors is the CMaR.
The completion date for the renovation is July 1, 2026.
