(S) Student Life Scheduler

Opening Date: April 30, 2021

Closing Date: Open until filled

Position Information:

Student Services Scheduler

Student Affairs and Student Life has activities on campus on a daily basis, and ensuring students who are scheduled to work are aware of their responsibilities is a terrific challenge.

Student Life is hiring a Scheduler. A person who is very organized, able to give instructions, and is accessible will do well in this position. If a student were interested in co-coordinating with their academic advisor to use this position as a basis for an internship, this position is one that requires and would evidence someone’s managerial skills.

Tasks:

  • There are student activities two-to-five nights per week. These activities use student labor and volunteers to manage them. The Scheduler may have a role in ensuring people who are assigned tasks show up on time and ready to perform those tasks.
  • Student Life supervises the mailroom, which is open approximately 30 hours per week. The Scheduler will ensure student-employees are showing up for shifts and contacting those who do not.
  • Student Life supervises the Weight Room Monitor, who supervises activity in the Weight Room 20-25 hours per week. The Scheduler will ensure student-employees are showing up for shifts and contacting those who do not.
  • The Scheduler will maintain a list of “on call” people, such that if a person calls out sick, a back up or substitute employee can be reached for a shift.
  • Based on the level of interest, the Scheduler may have a role in scheduling events such as Intramurals and/or may have a role in verifying/approving payroll submission for payment.

Communication:

  • The Scheduler is not an employee of the weight room or the mailroom, etc. They do not work hours when someone is sick or no-shows, but they do attempt to substitute that persons.
  • Missed shifts are grounds for termination from positions. The Scheduler will meet with the Director of Student Life no less than twice a week to review how shifts are being filled, and what actions might require managerial action.
  • Competent and unambiguous communication skills are preferred.
  • The Scheduler must have a working telephone. Other platforms of communication may be used at the discretion of Scheduler.

Work Study:

  • MSU Student who is hired as a Scheduler is encouraged to complete a FAFSA and seek approval as a work-study recipient. Work study funding is not required for this position.
  • Pay is $14.00/hour. Your work is very self-directed, your schedule is yours to manage, and your formal reporting time will be limited. However, when a position is unfilled due to sickness or a no-show, ‘leaping into action’ must take precedent over other considerations.
  • Estimated clocked in time is approximately six hours/week.

To express interest in joining the team, please email student.life@mayvillestate.edu and let us know. We’ll direct you to the formal application process. Completing your part of the application process before you arrive is good for both of us!

Students – non-athletes or others – may use the Weight Room Sunday through Thursday evenings, 6:00 – 10:00 pm.

The Weight Room Monitor will:

  • be in the Wellness Center and will be present in the Weight Room prior to, and ready to work at, 6:00 pm on nights of their shift;
  • will be in the Weight Room continually until the Weight Room closes at 10:00 pm;
  • conduct light cleaning, as assigned;
  • ensure safety protocols are followed by Wellness Center guests and Weight Room users; and
