Sean Thom has resigned from his position as head football coach at Mayville State University to pursue other opportunities. His last day at Mayville State will be Feb. 1. Thom became Mayville State’s head football coach late in December of 2016.

Thom appreciates having the opportunity to serve at Mayville State and said, “Thank you to the entire Mayville State University community for the overwhelming support I’ve received over the last two years. My family and I have built so many great relationships that will be with us for the rest of our lives.

“I thank the players for the blood, sweat, and tears that they put into this football program. This business is all about relationships and I feel like the young men who have served on this team will forever be in my DNA.

“Next, I thank the great coaches with whom I was able to work side by side, not only within the football program, but across the entire athletic department as well. It was a privilege and an honor to serve as head football coach for this institution and I wish MSU the best of luck in the future.”

“We are grateful to Coach Thom for the work he has done to get Comet Football on the right track for our student-athletes,” said Mayville State University Athletic Director Ryan Hall. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

The search for a new head football coach at Mayville State University is underway. Ryan Hall intends conduct a thorough search and hire a head football coach who will continue to improve the program and provide a winning culture.

“The administration of Mayville State University is committed to keeping the football program a priority, with the goal of having a winning program,” said MSU President Dr. Brian Van Horn. “We will continue to put forth our best efforts to recruit local and regional talent.”
