The public is invited to attend a presentation on the disease of addiction by Dr. Henke from the Heartview Foundation in Bismarck, N.D. The presentation, “Opioids. Addiction. Overdose. What You Need To Know” will be given at the Campus Center Luckasen Room at Mayville State University Wednesday, Aug. 28, beginning at 6 p.m.
For several years, opioids were being prescribed to address pain, without realizing the harmful outcomes that would result. The amount of opioids prescribed has been drastically reduced, but the issue of what to do about the patients who are suffering from addiction still exists. Dr. Henke will talk about how the brain responds to opioids and how she uses medication assisted treatment in conjunction with other services, such as counseling, to help people overcome their addiction.
