The Mayville State University Donut Dash will make its debut on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018 at 7 p.m. The fun, family-friendly, and campus-wide event will take participants throughout the MSU campus as they run, walk, or jog a one-mile course. The Donut Dash, which will take place during the first week of the fall semester of 2018 classes, is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members from around the region. The Donut Dash will begin outside the MSU Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. Proceeds will benefit the Jenny (Rettig) Karboviak Scholarship fund at Mayville State University. The event is being coordinated by Rick Karboviak, in memory of his wife, Jenny.

The concept for the Donut Dash is a fairly simple one: run, walk, or jog your way on the one-mile course that goes all around and through the middle of the Mayville State campus, with quarter mile stops for a donuts. If you can’t make it to the event in person, you can participate as a “Virtual Dasher,” and have a chance to win a dozen of Mayville’s finest Soholt donuts, which will be shipped to you!

Rick met his wife, Jenny (Rettig) Karboviak, shortly after both began working at Mayville State in the fall of 2014. Jenny worked as an aide in the Child Development Programs (CDP) on campus. They were engaged in July of 2015 and married on June 4, 2016. Jenny passed away on June 7, 2016, just a few short days after their wedding.

A scholarship was setup in memory of Jenny. Scholarship funds are awarded to Mayville State students seeking a two- or four-year degree in Early Childhood. Jenny was a 2013 graduate of MSU with an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood. Her love of working with children helped her to touch many lives in her short time at the CDP.

Cost to participate in the Donut Dash is $10 per participant ($5 for MSU students), or $40 for a family of four or more. Pre-registration is highly encouraged so that the proper number of donuts can be ordered in advance. Register at ClimbThePodium.com. The registration fee may be paid online at this site.

Rick Karboviak, MSU Admissions recruiter, is very familiar with running/walking events. He has coordinated the Mayville State Farmers Bowl 5K events the last few years. He’s also assisted with many running events in the region over the last five years, working with timing as well as directing race events.  For more information about the Donut Dash, contact Rick at 701-361-3101 or rkarboviak@hotmail.com.
