Gather with your Mayville State friends in warm, sunny places this winter

There will be several opportunities for Mayville State University alumni and friends to gather in warm, sunny places during the next several months. We know that the atmosphere at these gatherings will warm the heart and nourish the soul. It’s always good to re-connect with Mayville State friends, as it is to make new friends.

My wife, Debbie, and I, together with John Klocke, and his wife, Jan, plan to attend gatherings in Florida, Arizona, and California over the next few months. We hope that you’ll join us!

The second annual Mayville State University alumni and friends luncheon in Florida is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015. It will be held at the Belle Glade Country Club, 224 Moyer Loop, The Villages, Fla. A social will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. Adonica Schultz Aune (’68) and her husband, Bob (’72), will host a social at their home following the luncheon, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Cost of the luncheon is $15.00 per person. To register, you may send a check, made payable to the MSU Foundation, to the MSU Foundation, 330 Third Street NE, Mayville, N.D. 58257 or you may pay online at www.mayvillestate.edu/florida.

The annual Traill County/Mayville State University luncheon in Mesa, Ariz. will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015. The luncheon will be held in the Apache Hall of the Apache Wells Country Club, 5601 E Hermosa Vista Drive, Mesa. Socializing will begin at 11:00 a.m., and lunch will be served at 12:00 noon. Socializing will continue at the country club after the luncheon. All current and former Traill County area residents and Mayville State University alumni and friends are cordially invited to attend.

Joe Dunn, Mayville State graduate and distinguished alum, Bemidji, Minn., is coordinating this year’s luncheon, with the help of Shirley Gummer, former Traill County resident and Mayville State alum, Mandan, N.D. In the spirit of helping to facilitate this annual event, which is a decades-old tradition, the staff of the MSU Foundation will also be assisting with arrangements.

Cost of the luncheon is $25.00 per person. Reservations are required and must be pre-paid by Jan. 27, 2015. Make check payable to MSU Foundation and send it to the Foundation offices at 330 Third Street NE, Mayville, ND  58257. Luncheon reservations may also be pre-paid online at www.mayvillestate.edu/arizona.

Before we know it, March will be here and it will be time to head for California. Ross Njaa, 1960 Mayville State graduate, and his wife, Maxine, will host a cocktail social at their home Friday, March 13 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Njaas live at 1258 Reiker Street in Salinas, Calif. We’re hoping to gather some folks who’d like to golf on the morning of March 14. There’s a nice municipal course in Salinas and we’re looking forward to sharing in some fun times there.

The final California event will be a dinner the evening of March 14. Portabello’s, 1366 South Main St., Salinas, Calif., is the place. Entrée choices are beef or salmon, and cost is $25.00 per person. A cash bar for wine and beer will be available. Again, make your check payable to MSU Foundation and send it to the Foundation offices at 330 Third Street NE, Mayville, ND  58257. Luncheon reservations may also be pre-paid online at www.mayvillestate.edu/california.

Howard Johnson’s, 131 John Street, Salinas, Calif. is offering a special rate of $69.99 for this Mayville State reunion. If you’re interested, call 831-757-1020 and ask for the Mayville State reunion rate. Of course, there are other hotels available in Salinas, as well.

Please mark your calendars and plan to join in the festivities at any or all of these special opportunities for Mayville State alumni and friends. You’re sure to enjoy yourself, and if you’re a year-round North Dakota resident, the opportunity to get out of the cold of winter for a short break will be a bonus!
