First State Bank of Portland, Mayville, Grand Forks, Thompson, and Buxton has stepped up as the signature sponsor of Mayville State’s Farmers Bowl 2020. The annual Farmers Bowl festivities are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26.

“We are delighted to have these generous friends of Mayville State join us as sponsors of the Farmers Bowl festivities,” said MSU Foundation executive director Lon Jorgensen. “Things will look a little different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it will no doubt be a special day at Mayville State and in the community.”

The day will begin with the Farmers Bowl parade featuring farm equipment, bands, antique vehicles, and floats. The parade will form up in downtown Mayville, north of the Goose River Bank. To coincide with a later game start time, the parade will begin at noon this year. It will make its way through town on Main Street and end at Jerome Berg Field on the Mayville State campus. To register an entry in the parade, call 701-788-4864 or email stacy.buchl@mayvillestate.edu.

As a precautionary measure in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, there will be no candy or giveaways thrown out at the parade. The MSU Foundation staff will be packaging goodie bags for kids that can be picked up near Jerome Berg Field following the parade.

After the parade, everyone is welcome to enjoy corn on the cob and hot dogs on the lawn west of Jerome Berg Field. The Mayville State athletic teams and coaches are coordinating the corn and hot dog feed again this year. Freewill donations will be accepted. In the interest of safety related to the COVID-19 situation, food will be packaged for carry-out. Seating will not be provided.

The Comets will host Dakota State in the Farmers Bowl football game. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. at Jerome Berg Field. The Comets will be wearing their commemorative Farmers Bowl helmets, which feature a wheat motif.

The grand finale for Farmers Bowl 2020 will be the Farmers Bowl Silent Auction and Comet Athletic Club Sportsmen’s Raffle event which will take place at the Mayville Armory. The fun starts at 5 p.m. Socializing and bidding on the silent auction will begin at that time. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Drawings in the Sportsmen’s Raffle 50-gun giveaway will begin at 7 p.m. with MSU Foundation Executive Director Lon Jorgensen serving as emcee. Throughout the evening there will be opportunities to participate in drawings for prize packages, cash, and more. Attendees must be 21 years of age or older.

Those who wish to attend the event, but not participate in the Sportsmen’s Raffle 50-gun giveaway may purchase a meal-only ticket for $25. Tickets are available at the MSU Bookstore and the MSU Foundation office. Everyone who purchases a meal ticket will be eligible for a drawing for a $250 Scheels gift card.

Admission to the event is included for those who purchase a ticket for the gun raffle, which gives them a one-in-ten chance of winning a gun. See more at www.mayvillestate.edu/sportsmensraffle.

Proceeds of the Farmers Bowl silent auction will benefit the students of Mayville State University through the work of Comet Athletics, the MSU Alumni Association, and the MSU Foundation. Proceeds of the Sportsmen’s Raffle will provide scholarship assistance to Mayville State’s student athletes via the Comet Athletic Club.
