Weather-permitting, the Mayville State Farmers Bowl silent auction will be held in conjunction with the homecoming festivities on Oct. 17. The auction will be set up just outside the main entrance to Mayville State’s Jerome Berg Field, near the east end of the parking lot. Bidding will open at 12:30 p.m. and end at the conclusion of half time of the homecoming football game. The auction had previously been planned for Sept. 26 as part of the Farmers Bowl festivities, but out of an abundance of caution associated with the global pandemic, the football game was postponed and all other Farmers Bowl activities were canceled.

A great assortment of auction items has been donated by faithful Mayville State supporters. Items range from a side table handcrafted from Winchester shell casings and oak to items for kids, home décor, and more. Bidders will find a handmade baby quilt, cornhole boards, and a number of unique items, including a kid-size picnic table and Comets theme Adirondack chair. A list of auction items and photos can be found at www.mayvillestate.edu/silentauction.

Proceeds of the Farmers Bowl silent auction will benefit the students of Mayville State University through the work of Comet Athletics, the MSU Alumni Association, and the MSU Foundation.

Out of caution related to the coronavirus pandemic, the decision has been made to cancel all indoor homecoming events that had previously been planned for alumni and friends Oct. 16-18. Athletic Hall of Fame, Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame, and Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductees, as well as recipients of the Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Service awards will be honored virtually. It is the hope of organizers that circumstances will allow an in-person public gathering to recognize these individuals at some time in the future. The revised schedule for Homecoming 2020 can be found at www.mayvillestate.edu/homecoming2020.

Homecoming events will begin at noon on Saturday, Oct. 17 with the Ceremony of Remembrance at the Military Honor Garden located on the south lawn of the Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center. Individuals who have been honored by their loved ones in the Military Honor Garden will be recognized. Those who wish to be seated during the program are asked to bring a lawn chair. Social distancing and use of cloth face coverings is strongly encouraged.

The MSU Bookstore will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

First State Bank of Mayville, Portland, Thompson, Buxton, and Grand Forks will be grilling up pre-game food just outside of Jerome Berg Field starting at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come by for a bite to eat. Freewill donations will be taken to support the Comet Athletic Club.

The Homecoming Hall of Fame Teams on the 5s reunion will begin in the tailgating area at 12:30 p.m. Several Athletic Hall of Fame teams are marking anniversaries in five-year increments in 2020. They include the 1940, 1965, and 1990 football teams, the 1970 and 1990 baseball teams, and the 1995 men's basketball team. All members of these teams are invited to gather at "The Grove" located northwest of Jerome Berg Field for a time to reconnect and reminisce.

The Comets football team will host Dickinson State University in the homecoming game which begins at 2 p.m. at Jerome Berg Field.

Homecoming 2020 will wrap up with the MSU Music Department Homecoming Concert beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18. The program will be available via live stream only. There will not be an in-person audience.
