Dream Maker Campaign for academic scholarships underway

This year’s MSU Dream Maker Campaign is an opportunity for you to invest in the future of a Mayville State student who needs just a little financial help. More than 1,100 students are either on campus or taking courses online. Bright futures are being built at Mayville State University.

We’re thrilled that the state of North Dakota has awarded Mayville State $200,000 in matching funds for this biennium. Once again, these funds will likely match scholarship gifts. We’ll know more about this in November. Stay tuned for details!

The 2016-17 fiscal year was record-setting. With the help of alumni and friends, the MSU Foundation was able to assist students more than ever before. Every dollar donated furthers the MSU Foundation goal of changing lives at Mayville State University - helping students as they pursue the dream of an education. Scholarships are the key to reducing the cost of higher education and post-college indebtedness.

More than 585 scholarships have been awarded for the 2017-18 academic year. These include named annual scholarships, endowed scholarships, academic Honor Scholarships, Music Maker scholarships, and Comet Athletic Club scholarships.

Mayville State student Kristin Wright from Hillsboro, N.D. had this to say about receiving a scholarship: “MSU students are truly fortunate to have scholarship donors who care and help us to reach our aspirations.” Kristin is majoring in elementary education. She is also making a positive difference on campus as a student consultant in the writing center, where all students can go for free help with their writing assignments.

Mayville State offers a variety of scholarships for students who show potential in the areas of academic achievement, leadership, and participation in other activities. Students are encouraged to submit their application for scholarship award consideration by February 15 of each year.

New freshmen and transfer students may be eligible to receive Honor, Leadership, and/or Non-Resident Merit Scholarships. Eligibility is based on a review of the students’ previous academic performance. These scholarships are offered and awarded by the Admissions Office. Honor and Leadership Scholarships are generally awarded to students from North Dakota and Minnesota and vary from $500 to $2,500. Funding for these scholarships comes from private contributions of alumni and friends. They are crucial in our efforts to recruit new students.

Scholarships can make a big difference in the lives of those who receive them. By making a contribution to the scholarship fund at Mayville State, you are touching the future. Scholarship recipients are able to reach their educational goals and they in turn go out and make a positive difference in the world. It’s a win-win!
