The Mayville State University Alumni Association’s annual Alumni Day festivities are planned for Friday, June 26. The festivities are being held in conjunction with Mayville-Portland’s Summerfest. The MayPort Community Club members are organizing and coordinating Summerfest activities to be held June 25, 26, 27, and 28.

Festivities at Mayville State will kick off with the ground-breaking ceremony for the Military Honor Garden, which will be located on the lawn south of the Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center at Mayville State. The program, which will include patriotic music and a tribute to those who have served in the armed forces, will begin at 11 a.m. at the Larson Center. A free picnic lunch will follow the program. Everyone is welcome!

Reunions are on the agenda for the afternoon. Former residents of Berg Hall are invited to gather at Berg Hall between 1 and 4 p.m. for an opportunity to take a look at their former home and visit with others who share the experience of having lived at Berg Hall. Former library employees and library science alumni are invited to join the current staff for refreshments and an opportunity to see the beautifully updated library facility from 2 to 4 p.m. These folks are encouraged to make a point to check out the Clenora Quanbeck Memorial Garden at the Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center while they are on campus. A guided campus tour will leave from the front of Old Main at 2 p.m. This will be a great opportunity to see all of the great facility updates that have recently taken place on campus.

From 3 to 5 p.m., the Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center will be the site for a reception to honor the 2015 Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Service Award recipients. Everyone is welcome to stop by and visit with Distinguished Alumni Award recipients Karen Lyng Asmundson (’90), Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Dr. James LaBarre (’66), Eau Claire, Wis., and Leroy McClure, Jr., Dallas, Texas (’83); and Distinguished Service Award recipients Mary (Hanson) Iverson (’68) and Harlan Johnson (ex. ’82), both of Mayville, N.D.

The Alumni Association Awards Dinner will follow, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room. In addition to the alumni awards presentation, the program will include musical selections by an ensemble of Mayville State alumni, Ann Kraft, Patty Cote, Jeff Cote, John Dungan, and JoDee Dungan. The public is invited to enjoy some fantastic entertainment provided by Jazz On Tap +2 at the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room from 8 until 11 p.m. Mayville State music alumni Kirk Overmoe and Denny Connelly will be joining Jazz On Tap “regulars” Mayville State alumnus Kris Eylands on guitar, Bob Cary on bass, and Mike Blake on the drums and vibes. Enjoy their unique arrangement of jazz, funk, and vintage rock music, and experience pure musical chemistry! Must be 21 to attend. There is no admission charge.

The Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. June 26, and from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. June 27. The public is cordially invited to stop by. The coffee pot will be on!
