The Mayville State University Alumni Association’s sixth annual Alumni Day festivities are planned for Friday, June 24. The events are being held in conjunction with Mayville-Portland’s Summerfest. The MayPort Community Club members are organizing and coordinating Summerfest activities to be held June 23, 24, 25, and 26.

Guided campus tours will begin from the front of Old Main at 1 and 2 p.m. This will be an opportunity to see the many facility improvements that have been made on the Mayville State campus over the last several years, including the newly completed Health, Physical Education, and Recreation expansion and renovation project.

An ice cream social will be held on the lawn at the Edson and Margaret Alumni and Leadership Center from 2 to 3 p.m. The public is invited to see the latest enhancements at the Military Honor Garden, located on the grounds south of the Larson Center while enjoying ice cream that will be provided compliments of the MSU Alumni Association and Dick and Cleone Whelan. Those attending are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

Plans are to have all of the finishing touches complete at the Military Honor Garden before June 24. Ground-breaking for this beautiful and meaningful addition to the Mayville State campus was held during last year’s Alumni Day festivities. An official dedication was a part of homecoming events last fall. The monument features a life-sized bronze eagle in flight sculpture. All five branches of the military are represented on granite plaques in this tribute to Mayville State faculty, students, and community men and women for their patriotic service in America’s Armed Forces. Final touches yet to be completed include installation of a flag pole and night lighting, as well as landscaping of the area. For more information about the Military Honor Garden project, contact Dena Bergstrom at 701-788-4864 or dena.bergstrom@mayvillestate.edu.

A reception to honor the 2016 Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Service Award recipients will be held at the Larson Center from 3 to 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop by and visit with this year’s honorees. Distinguished Alumni Award recipients will be Nannette Bagstad (’68), Randy Eken (’78), Al Larson (’86), and Dale Norton (’81). Jerold Bietz (’63) will be honored posthumously with the Distinguished Alumni Award. Doug Petersen (’93) will receive the Distinguished Service Award.

These honorees will receive their awards at the annual Alumni Association Awards Dinner, which will be held in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.00 each and can be purchased at www.mayvillestate.edu/alumniday or by calling the MSU Foundation, 701-788-4864. RSVP deadline is Monday, June 8.

A musical variety show will follow in the Classroom Building Auditorium, beginning at 8 p.m. While the program is still being organized, plans are to feature the musical talents of a variety of Mayville State alumni and friends.

An all-alumni and friends social at the Mayville Golf Club will round out the day’s activities, from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.

A special invitation is extended to Mayville State’s class of 1976 and their friends. This group will gather and participate in the Alumni Day festivities as part of their 40-year celebration. The Mayville State alumni of Pembina County/Hoople will host a continental breakfast for the group on Saturday, June 25. It will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center. More information about the class of 1976 and friends reunion is available at www.mayvillestate.edu/1976.
