For the second year in a row, Agassiz Drain Tile of Buxton, N.D. has stepped up to sponsor Mayville State University’s Farmers Bowl. Last year, Agassiz became the first-ever sponsor of the event.  Because of Agassiz Drain Tile’s monetary contribution, the Farmers Bowl festivities generated greater support for Mayville State University and its students, giving more students the opportunity to benefit from a Mayville State education.

“The support of Agassiz Drain Tile in 2012 definitely contributed to the record-breaking success of Farmers Bowl,” said Mayville State Director of Development John Klocke. “We’re truly grateful to Agassiz Drain Tile partners Ross Johnson, Derek Peterson, and Neal Johnson for their generosity.”

With the addition of “The BIG-4” reverse auction and Agassiz Drain Tile’s sponsorship contribution, last year’s Farmers Bowl activities generated a record of nearly $63,000.

Established in 2005, Agassiz Drain Tile is North Dakota’s only locally owned and operated sub-surface drainage contractor. Agassiz Drain Tile is committed to providing farmers with drainage systems that increase profitability. Agassiz’s systems are custom built with large mains and narrow spaced laterals to optimize efficiency and reliability. Systems are installed using the latest techniques in the drainage industry today.

The MSU Foundation coordinates the Farmers Bowl festivities annually. The day-long festival celebrates the proud agricultural heritage of the area. Many community volunteers and MSU supporters work together to make sure this event is successful year after year.

Farmers Bowl 2013 is scheduled for Saturday, September 21. The day will begin with the “Back Behind the Barn” 5K Run/Walk that leaves from the front of Mayville State’s Old Main at 8:00 a.m. Proceeds of this event will go toward the purchase of new equipment at the MSU Wellness Center. The registration form is available at www.mayvillestate.edu/farmersbowl5k.

A parade featuring farm equipment, bands, antique vehicles, and floats will begin in downtown Mayville at 10:00 a.m., make its way through town, and end at Jerome Berg Field on the Mayville State campus. Immediately following the parade, the public is invited to partake in a corn on the cob and hot dog feed that will be held just outside of Jerome Berg Field. The MSU Comet Athletic Club will host this annual feed. Freewill donations will be accepted.

Titan Machinery will sponsor the Farmers Bowl football game, when the MSU Comets take on Cole College. This is the second home game of the season. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Jerome Berg Field.

The Farmers Bowl auction will be held for the 17th time in 2013. In the first auction, held in 1997, more than $14,000 was raised. The total amount raised has grown steadily over the years. The proceeds of the auction are administered by the MSU Foundation for the benefit of Mayville State University and its students.

The auction will be held in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room. A silent auction will begin at 5:00 p.m., and an hors d‘oeuvres buffet and cash bar will be available throughout the evening. The excitement of the live auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. The grand finale of the auction will be “The BIG-5” reverse auction, in which the goal will be to raise funding for five $1,000-Honor Scholarships that can be awarded to incoming students. Tickets for the auction sell for $25.00 each and will available soon at the MSU Foundation office and online at www.mayvillestate.edu/farmersbowl.

A cash drawing fundraiser and the raffle of an original watercolor painting by Doug Anderson will also add to the proceeds of the auction. Tickets will be available soon at the MSU Foundation office or at www.mayvillestate.edu/farmersbowl.
